The idea for the Texas Film Belt Project came to founder Penny LeLeux while location scouting for a film in 2019. It's been five years in the making and the inaugural year is launching. The goal is to promote filmmaking along the I-10 corridor in Texas through a short film competition.
The Texas Film Belt Project will be made up of short films shot in Texas within 50 miles of Interstate 10. An initial selection of films submitted will be screened in Orange, Texas in September. The top 12 films will be selected to represent the Texas Film Belt Project in a traveling film block. The top 5 junior division films will also be recognized. The top films will be awarded custom belt buckles.
The Texas Film Belt Project will create a traveling film block from submissions which will be screened at multiple locations along the Interstate 10 corridor which will hopefully inspire other filmmakers and promote film tourism road trips. We hope to distribute the block as a feature anthology in the future.
The deadline to submit to the Texas Film Belt Project is fast approaching!
